About us

I have successfully bred cockapoos and chihuahuas in our family home: firstly as a hobby breeder and now with a council licence under new animal welfare legislation.

Animal welfare is very important to me: I studied farm animal welfare as part of my Environmental Biology degree at Reading University, then lectured in Animal Welfare and Legislation (amongst other things) at an agricultural college in Yorkshire.  All of our animals are treated with care and respect.

As a family we have lived with dogs for as long as we can remember!  Our current pack includes: four cocker spaniel bitches Missy, Tilly, Kali and Elsa (3 of whom are now retired); a chocolate miniature poodle called Reggie; a homebred blue merle F1 cockapoo Fifi; and Bluebell - a blue & tan chihuahua and her retired mum Poppy.

All of our puppies are health checked and micro chipped prior to leaving us. They would come with copies of any relevant certificates/health screening results that apply to them and their parents, a full puppy pack and puppy contract.

The puppies are all brought up with our other dogs and children.  They are played with daily and are used to all the normal household noises.  I undertake a socialisation schedule and give a copy of this to new owners.

'Our Cockapoo, Lola, came from Honey’s first litter, born in October 2015.

It was lovely seeing Lola with her siblings and Honey. Jacquie made us very welcome, allowing us to visit a few times in the run up to Lola leaving her Mum to come home with us.

Honey was a wonderful Mum to her pups but the love, care, time and attention Jacquie put into ensuring the needs of the puppies were met was second to none. Lola’s first 8 weeks in Jacquie’s family home meant she had plenty of exposure to household noises, meets and greets (children, adults and other dogs) and a few trips to the vets to start socialisation early.

The puppies came with a comprehensive and very helpful puppy pack which Jacquie had also put a lot of care and attention in to.

After Lola came home with us, we stayed in touch with Jacquie who was always very pleased to receive updates on her progress and we even meet up with the dogs for the occasional walk when we can.

I would have no hesitation recommending West Sussex Cockapoos to anyone looking to becoming a responsible Cockapoo owner'.

Jacquie at West Sussex Cockapoos is absolutely wonderful!

We brought our little girl home 3 weeks ago and she's been a superstar, she is a lovely, well adjusted pup and fit as a fiddle, not to mention GORGEOUS! It was really important to us when purchasing a puppy that the breeder was responsible and genuinely cares about the welfare of their animals, and Jacquie certainly fits that bill.  She was very accommodating during the whole process, encouraging visits at her home before the final collection day, so pup could get used to us (and vice versa) and answering my (many) questions. It's clear that she adores the pups and her adult dogs, and the feeling is mutual!

The whole process was more than we could have asked for, Jacquie has been open and friendly even after bringing our puppy home and it's so obvious that the litter were loved and well cared for, just by how settled they are.

We got Humphrey our handsome Cockapoo from Jacquie. He was born in October 2015. We had recently lost our beloved family dog and I spent along time looking for the the right breeder and puppy.

I can honestly say Jacquie was perfect. From the first time we spoke to her she was incredibly helpful and a genuinely lovely lady. We went to visit the puppies and Honey their mum twice before we collected Humphrey. Jacquie was open to us visiting as many times as we wanted but due to it being a 2 hour journey each way from our house we were limited. Jacquie provided all information about Honey and the stud dog. We also had a RSPCA pack which had all information regarding vacations, worming treatment etc that Humphrey would be having before it was time for us to collect him.

The puppies were reared in a family home with children and other dogs. Jacquie got them used to noises that would occur in a home. All the puppies were absolutely stunning and had lovely temperaments.

Humphrey is now 9 months old and is an amazing dog. He has a lovely personality and is wonderful with my children and their friends. We are still in contact with Jacquie and often send her photos of how much mischief Humphrey is getting up to!

We will be contacting Jacquie later on this year to see if Honey will be having another litter, hopefully she will and we will be on Cockapoo number 2!

We bought our Chihuahua puppy, Pippa, in April 2016.

We contacted Jacquie on a Sunday morning after seeing Pippa advertised and within the hour we had received a response and arranged to go and visit that afternoon.

When we arrived it was great to see Pippa interacting with not only her mother Poppy, but also her father Bertie! Both very caring and fun loving dogs! Jacquie was so welcoming and let us stay as long as we wanted, also offering for us to go back and visit any time. Jacquie never applied any pressure on us to make a decision to buy Pippa, but we were sold immediately!

Pippa was a very confident pup, which clearly came from the hard work Jacquie put in to ensure the pups are socialised. She was used to all household noises and also children which was important to us.

The week leading up to picking up Pippa, Jacquie was so helpful always answering our questions and keeping us up to date with how Pippa was getting on. When we picked her up, Jacquie gave me loads of information which was very detailed. We thought this was great and had clearly taken a lot of time and effort to pull together.

Since we have had Pippa at home, we have kept in regular contact with Jacquie and we have made sure that we have kept her in touch with how Pippa is getting on. Jacquie is always so pleased to hear how Pippa is getting on and we love hearing about Poppy and Bertie too. We have even met up since and taken all the dogs for a walk! Pippa loves it.

I would not hesitate to recommend Jacquie to anyone looking to buy a puppy. For us as first time dog owners, she has been so helpful and attentive; helping us feel confident in our decision - which we now wouldn't change for the world.

We brought Meg, our beautiful chocolate brown cockapoo puppy, home in March 2019.  She was very calm on the 1.5 hour journey home, with no crying at all.  She slept through the first night, not crying at all then either, which is amazing.  She is very quick to learn and is developing new skills all the time.  She is a bundle of energy and fun but loves a cuddle more than anything (apart from maybe socks!)
Jacquie was helpful and super quick to respond to every question we had, even before we knew Tilly was pregnant.  She provided daily updates, photos and films of the puppies as they grew, as well as providing excellent advice on preparing to bring Meg home.
We visited twice before collecting Meg and were made to feel very welcome, with our children being able to ask lots of questions and cuddle all the puppies. Jacquie has invested so much time in the puppies that the only thing we’ve found Meg scared of so far was a drill (!) and a close encounter with a motorbike.  She is a little star and we can’t thank Jacquie enough.

Our beautiful black cockapoo Hetty came from Tilly’s first litter in March 2019. We chose Jacquie as a breeder because after discussion with her and following her Facebook page for some time it was clear that animal welfare is very important to her.

We are lucky enough to live local to Jacquie, she welcomed my family into her home over a number of weekends following Hetty’s birth, my children really enjoyed watching Hetty grow and develop, Jacquie had much time and patience for their MANY questions about her, the pups and her dogs.  In addition to this Jacquie provided regular updates, photos and videos of the puppies development. We very much looked forward to regular videos of puppy antics!

Much care and attention went into raising the pups and having been raised in a family home, Hetty has been exposed to lots of household noises and isn’t fazed by our hoover or somewhat noisy children.

Hetty came home to us at 8 weeks having had her first vacation, a microchip and with a comprehensive puppy pack. Jacquie also welcomed us to contact her with queries or for advice once home.

Hetty is such a fun, bright but calm dog, we are having so much fun watching her grow and discover new things and are looking forward to her being part of our family.

I would highly recommend Jacquie to anyone looking to become a cockapoo owner.

“We’ve come across West Sussex Cockapoos by chance and I am so glad we did. Jacquie is a knowledgeable breeder who is happy to answer any questions you may have before you commit to the puppy as well as after you’ve brought the puppy home. Our cockapoo puppy has a lovely temperament. He is confident and playful whilst being easy going and super friendly. We believe that’s a credit to his good natured parents but also to the way Jacquie has handled him since birth. If you are looking to add a cockapoo to your family I would recommend getting in touch with Jacquie who will make the journey to owning one most enjoyable and will give you a peace of mind by providing you with all the information you need before making your decision.”

Chester was 1 of 8 gorgeous puppies from Kali’s litter, born December 2022.

As a family, we had been talking for nearly 2 years about getting a dog, but either the timing wasn’t right and/or we couldn’t find a breeder who really met our criteria. We knew we’d struck gold with Jacquie & things very quickly fell into place.
Jacquie’s warmth & dedication to her dogs was clear from the offset. She is incredibly knowledgeable, with animal welfare truly at the heart of everything she does.

From first contact, through to collection of our pup, Jacquie was informative, responsive & patient. She provided regular updates (text & videos) of the pups’ progress & was on hand to answer any questions.

She was incredibly accommodating with visits & actively encouraged us to come over & meet & play with our pup as much as possible. I truly believe this has resulted into Chester settling so well into our home.

In the run-up to collection, she socialised the litter in her family home. From chatting to the other owners of this litter we all have confident, happy & trusting pup’s – this is credit to Jacquie’s time & effort. She has the pups checked by a vet for full health, arranges 5 weeks free insurance & has the pups microchipped. It’s seamless at handover.

We have spoken to many friends who have had dogs over the years & none of them can believe how much Jacquie does for the pups & for us owners Honestly, no-one comes close to Jacquie. I can’t recommend her highly enough. Her kind, empathetic & informed approach definitely results in healthy, happy & energetic pups.
